James F. Herron, 66, of Kokomo passed away at 9:01 am on Saturday, February 20, 2016 in the ER of Community Howard Regional Health Hospital. He was born on February 28, 1949 in Charleston, WV to Wade and Ruby (Thomas) Herron. On September 25, 1987 James married Rita Fearnow Cheek and she survives. James was a 1968 Jacksboro High School graduate and was in the United States Army as a Sergeant from 1969 to 1971 during the Vietnam War. He worked for Chrysler for 32 years retiring in 1999 and was a member of the UAW Local 685. James was a member of the Kokomo Missionary Baptist Church, coached Little League in Galveston, a member of the Elwood Conservation Club, a member of the Moose Carden Fishing Clinic. He was an avid fisherman, loved to go hunting and liked to go drag racing in Bunkerhill. Survivors include his wife Rita Fearnow Herron of Kokomo; two sons James Wade Herron of Kokomo, Bradford A. (Tonya) Herron of Galveston; one step son Jeffrey A. (Monica Bogue) Cheek of Kokomo; one grandchild Caden Wade (Mary E. Smith) Herron of Kokomo; eleven step grandchildren Ashley (Kyle Rogers) Johnson, Joshua (Tasha King) Johnson, Jessica Johnson; Brittney Cheek, Nicole Cheek, Kayla (David) Noble, Kim Cheek, Evan M. (Brittany) Cheek, Cody M. Leicht, Cory M. Houston, Gabrielle A. Houston; five great grandchildren Wade Austin Herron, Jace Snell Herron, Brynlee Faye Herron, Annabelle Rogers, Elaina Johnson; three sisters Sue (Bill) Green, June Goings, Marsha Herron. James was preceded in death by his parents Wade and Ruby Herron; son Jason Cheek. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Stout & Son Funeral Home 200 E. Main St. Russiaville, with Pastor Brad Swain officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with Military Honors. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be giving to the Moose Carden Fishing Clinic.
